Wilmington Area Farmer's Markets - Local, Fresh & Fun

Posted: May 13, 2017 at 12:00 AM by Bailey Gordon

There are many reasons why we look forward to Spring and Summer in Wilmington, but perhaps one of our favorite reasons will always be the local, fresh fruits, veggies, flowers and crafts at the Farmer's Markets! Lucky (and convenient) for us, there are several Markets around Wilmington to enjoy all Summer long!

The Downtown Riverfront Market is every Saturday morning from 8am-1pm and runs from April 15th-November 18th! Located at Riverfront Park on Water Street (in front of the Courthouse building) the Downtown Market offers fresh, locally grown produce, promotes community gathering and encourages the arts.

If you're unable to make the Downtown Market on Saturday, there are still several others to choose from! The next one on our list is the Wrightsville Beach Farmer's Market. This market takes place every Monday from 8am to 1pm and runs from May 15th - October 30th! In addition to fresh produce, this market also offers a platform for local artisans to sell their wares! This market is located at the Wrightsville Beach Municipal Grounds/Park next to Town Hall.

The next local Market is the Poplar Grove Farmer's Market! Every Wednesday from April 19th - October 25th, from 8am-1pm, you can enjoy yet another chance to browse local art work, purchase locally grown produce and directly ask questions to the farmers, the artists and the growers!

The above 3 markets are Saturday, Monday and Wednesday, giving you three convenient options to buy fresh, local produce and show your support for local artists as well! If you cannot attend one of these three, and happen to be in the nearby Carolina Beach area on a Saturday morning, there's also the Carolina Beach Market that runs from May 27th - October 7th!

Farmer's Markets are great for many reasons, their contributions, their charm and the encouragement of socially gathering with your community, but they're also one of the only opportunities you'll have to meet face to face with the person growing your food, ask them questions about the process and their involvement in the community and get a chance to meet local artists and let them know how much their work is appreciated!

It's amazing what a difference your community can make in your life, your diet and your home in the form of food, arts and services, so take this opportunity to not only support your local providers, but to also enjoy yourself as you spend some time in the outdoor markets browsing some of our area's best offerings!

If you just can't wait until a Farmer's Market day for your fresh produce, there is another option for you here in Wilmington, Port City Produce! With a recent expansion to two locations in Wilmington, Port City Produce is open 7 days a week and what it lacks in the arts and crafts booths (like the other Markets) it makes up for in fresh produce with knowledgeable employees to guide you through your experience! Located at 5740 Market Street and 6458 Carolina Beach Road, both locations feature outdoor markets with fresh fruits and vegetables that can easily complete your Summer tablescapes perfectly!
